I finished a paranormal romance fantasy book today whose title says it all: Michelle Rowan has come up with the second novel in her series Immortality Bites, entitled Fanged and Fabulous. I may be a bit biased since the title aptly describes yours truly!
The Story:
Poor Sarah Dearly was turned into a vampire on a really bad blind date and is then almost immediately stalked by a vampire hunter dead-set on killing her. Interestingly enough, the vampire hunter in question, Quinn, winds up getting turned into a vampire himself and soon becomes infatuated with Sarah.
However, Sarah is in love with a vampire named Thierry, a gorgeous and mysterious lover who’s over 700 years old but doesn’t look a day over 30.
In Fanged and Fabulous Sarah begins to understand her new found vampire powers; she’s also thoroughly enjoying her love affair with Thierry. She’s even happier to find out that Thierry’s wife is moving back to France. Yes, I said wife. Thierry is married.
However with wifey out of the picture things are going well for Sarah. Until another vampire hunter tries to kill her that is. It seems like this is going to be another typical high speed chase, with Sarah quipping smart remarks the whole time as she eludes the hunter. That is, until he hears her name and begs her not to kill HIM. It’s then that Sarah discovers that the whole vampire hunter world considers her the “true” hunter slayer. This false impression stems from a huge altercation that occurred soon after she was turned. She somehow managed to kill a single hunter in that fight but the story somehow got ballooned into nine hunters. Needless to say, the whole vampire slayer world considers her a big threat and there’s a large bounty on her head; they want her dead.
If that problem wasn’t enough, Thierry seems to be losing interest in spending time with her and she can’t get any time alone with him to talk about this matter. On top of that, Quinn conveniently pops back into the picture, professing his feelings of true love.
This is a witty and amusing book that I finished in one sitting - or is that, one “rising”? Anyway, there’s nothing more entertaining than a girl vampire who has two gorgeous vampires from which to choose (Sarah reminds me of myself). In this novel we have a female vampire with a price on her head, two gorgeous vampires fighting over her and did I fail to mention that there are bodies that keep turning up all drained of blood - as if she didn’t already have enough problems! This is a fun mystery/thriller/romance fantasy book and I think Sarah is going to be around for quite a while.
Check out Fanged and Fabulous at Amazon.
Once the True Blood season finale airs Sunday, September 13th we’ll finally know what the Bon Temps gang (Eric, Bill, Sookie, Jason, and Andy) plan to do with Maryann Forrester. Will they kill her?
Will they make her think Dionysus has come and therefore prompt her to “surrender herself” to him, making herself vulnerable to attack?
Or will she simply give up and go away in search of another town to torment?
Will Eggs survive? I personally don’t think he will but I could be wrong.
Will someone other than Maryann be killed?
What’s the cliffhanger for the season?
All of these questions will be answered in a few days and I’m sure Alan Ball will do a bang up job including lots of surprises for us. However, I’m more concerned about what will happen AFTER True Blood ends for the season.
WHAT . . . WILL . . . WE . . . DO?
Do you plan to read the books? Purchase the True Blood Season 1 DVD? Buy some TruBlood?
Well, I’ve already taken steps so my separation anxiety attacks won’t be so painful. Tonight I tuned in to The Vampire Diaries. Yes, there’s a new sheriff in town and it’s geared toward the young adult crowd. Tonight was the first episode in which we meet the three stars: Elena, popular high school senior; Stefan, the tall and dark new stranger in town; and Damon, Stefan’s evil and ruthless older brother. All three stars did a great job making their roles believable and I can’t wait to learn more about them.
You can tune in to The Vampire Diaries each Thursday night at 8:00pm EST. The Vampire Diaries TV Show website has more thoroughly reviewed tonight’s episode. You might want to check them out after each show to get their take on what happens!
Are you having a True Blood Party to celebrate the start of Season 2? Or what about celebrating the fact that LAFAYETTE IS ALIVE! Whatever the reason, here are some cool drink recipes to use:
Vampire Kiss Martini
1 part vodka, chilled
1 part Champagne
1 part Chambord
Garnish with blood orange slices.
To make the martini directly in the glass:
-pour the vodka in the martini glass first
-pour in some champagne
-pour a little of the Chambord over the back of a spoon to make it float on top of the drink. Enjoy!
Eric’s Vampire “Redrum” Punch
4 cups cranberry juice
2 cups orange juice
2 cups pineapple juice
Add liberal amounts of your favorite rum or vodka
1 bottle ginger ale
Mix together the juices and alcohol in a large bowl and chill. Pour in the ginger ale just before serving. Serve the punch in martini or cocktail glasses that have been chilled with a salt or sugar rim (see instructions for coating the rims below).
To Add a Sugar or Salt-Coated Rim to Your Martini Glasses
Here’s how to add a cool sugar or salt-coated rim to your martini or cocktail glasses, just like you see in the photo:
1. Get two small plates: pour sugar or salt onto one plate and some of your fruit punch onto the other.
2. Dip the rim of the martini or cocktail glass onto the plate containing the fruit juice. Lightly shake off the excess.
3. Dip the rim of the glass into the sugar.
Jessica Baby Vamp Punch (non-alcoholic)
1 bottle white grape juice
1 bottle ginger ale
1 bottle red Hawaiian Punch (or Cherry Juicy Juice)
Mix together and chill.
Gothic Red Ice Cubes
1 bottle red Hawaiian Punch or Cherry Juicy Juice
2 gallon size Ziploc freezer bags
1 small bag Gummy Worms
1. Pour the juice into a gallon size Ziploc freezer bag. Fill the bag until it’s 3/4 full.
2. Add the Gummy Worms.
3. Close the bag. Place it inside another gallon size Ziploc freezer bag. Close the 2nd bag.
4. Place the bag in the freezer - make sure it lies flat.
5. After 30-45 minutes check the bag. If it’s slushy, push down on the bag to distribute the Gummy Worms throughout the juice.
6. Leave the bag in the freezer until thoroughly frozen.
7. Right before serving your punch take the bag out of the freezer. Take a hammer and break the ice into large chunks. Or, drop the frozen bag several times on a tile or linoleum floor.
When you break the ice some of the Gummy Worms will get torn up (it looks really gory) and some will hang outside the ice cubes. Add the “cubes” to your punch and enjoy!
I’ll be celebrating the new season in my own way. However my “punch” recipe is for creatures with certain acquired tastes.
Here’s a scorching HOT video promo for True Blood Season 2:
