Hello fellow Truebies!

We’ve now had the pleasure of two (count ’em, two!) whole episodes of True Blood Season 5. Are you as enamored with the Season so far as I am? My significant other and I have just finished watching Episode 2 (“Authority Always Wins”) and we both agree that there’s so much going on that we’re a bit confused. Since I’m sure we’re not the only ones, I thought I’d give a quick recap of a few of the main threads in the plot.

Eric, Bill and RomanBill, Eric and the Authority.   Poor Bill and Eric are in deep trouble with the Authority. In the True Blood Season 5 debut episode (“Turn Turn Turn”), the two are captured by the Authority. Although they mount a daring escape, the two are soon re-captured. The two hapless heroes are imprisoned, tortured and interrogated by the Authority. They are about to experience the True Death, when Bill offers a trade in return for a little longer to live. He and Eric will help the Authority capture Russell Edgington. The Authority, or more specifically the impeccably dressed Roman (Christoper Meloni), agree, and the two live to fight another day. Series creator Alan Ball says that Season 5 is the season of the bromance, and it really does look like Bill and Eric are spending a lot of time together and helping each other out of fixes!

Sookie , Lafayette, Tara.          I’m probably not the only one who finds Tara annoying – but I didn’t want her to die! But I’m not so sure that being turned into a vampire is better than dying. Still, Sookie and Lafayette meant well when they asked Pam to turn Tara. Tara’s none too pleased though, and will probably be in foul mood and flashing fang at the drop of a hat for the rest of the season.

Michael McMillian as Steve NewlinJason and the Reverend Steve Newlin.       In the biggest surprise of True Blood Season 5, Steve Newlin re-appears… and declares his love for Jason, coming out as a gay vampire American. OK, I definitely didn’t see that coming! Newlin is obsessed enough with Jason that he even offers Jessica (who is keeping an eye on things for Bill while he’s off with Eric) $20000 in cash to give Jason to him. No one was happier than I that Jessica turned him down flat, saying that Jason was her friend and that she wouldn’t sell him out.

And a whole lot more!               Elsewhere in Bon Temps, Sam is taken and tortured by the pack for allegedly killing the packmaster, Alcide admits to being the killer instead, Sam and Luna have a fight and Emma turns out to be a wee little werewolf (such a cute little pup), and Terry’s PTSD is scaring Arlene, and compelling him to work with Patrick to find out who’s been killing off the members of their squad.

So…. lots of balls in the air, and I can’t imagine how they’re going to bring all the threads together… but they’ve done it for the four past seasons, so we’ll just have to wait and see! What we do know is that in this Sunday’s episode (“Whatever I am, You Made Me”), we’ll see Tara on a rampage, Debbie Pelt’s parents looking for their daughter (already neatly disposed off by Sookie and Lafayette), Bill and Eric on their hunt for Russell, and the introduction of Claude, Claudine’s twin brother. (You’ll remember that Claudine was Sookie’s fairy godmother. Eric sucked her dry way back in Season 4.) Check out the preview for the episode!

Five Days to True Blood Season 5!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Oh my! After months of waiting, I can hardly believe it’s just five days to True Blood Season 5! The first episode of the new season is set to air on June 10, and in the run-up to the premiere, HBO has been releasing tiny little tidbits of information about what’s going to happen in episode one. In fact, there’s a great video featuring the cast of True Blood Season 5 at the Hollywood premiere of the first episode where they talk about what to expect this year.

Joe Manganiello says coyly, “I’ve been waiting three years for what happens and what goes down this year.” Dare we hope that this means that Alcide, everyone’s favorite hunky werewolf, gets together with Sookie at last? Certainly, her other beaus seems otherwise occupied.  Alexander Skarsgard, who plays sexy Eric, says, “The relationship between Bill and Eric is not us fighting over Sookie. We have a common  enemy now.” With both vampires busy with the Authority, and with Russell Edgington, that might really mean that Sookie takes up with Alcide doesn’t  it?

There are also these oddly erotic scenes of Bill and Eric in these fetish-inspired outfits. (I kid you not – watch out the two hunks in little straps of leather in the video!) The only thing that detracted from the sexiness were the blinking red lights on their harnesses – surely those aren’t for fun. Perhaps they’re a means of tracking the two vampires – or even blowing them up? In any case,  Sam Trammell (who plays Sam Merlotte) says mysteriously, “It’s a dangerous year for everybody.”

Bill and Eric in True Blood Season 5

So, five more days until the season premiere! Whatever the case, it’s definitely going to be exciting! Janina Gavankar says, “We just saw the first episode, and it’s insane!” Ball adds, “It’s a lot of story paced into one hour!”.

Check out the video to get a glimpse of the first episode, then tune in on June 10 to find out what happens. (P.S. Waiting really does suck, doesn’t it?)

All right True Blood fans! With True Blood Season 5 set to premiere in just one month, the excitement is mounting. Everyone is dying to know what’s going to happen with their favorite Bon Temps denizens. Will Sookie hook up with Alcide, go back to Bill, or carry on with Eric? What’s going to happen with Jessica and Jason? (And gee, what about poor sweet Hoyt?) Oh and there’s that whole question about what will happen with Terry and Arlene now that the ghost’s gone… And what’s up with Terry’s long-lost army buddy, Patrick Devins (played by Scott Foley of The Unit and Grey’s Anatomy)?

Well the one thing I can tell you this week is that in True Blood Season 5, Terry won’t be spending a lot of time in Bon Temps. It’s not that he’s going to be abandoning Arlene or anything, but according to EW, Terry will be spending a lot of time on the road with Patrick. Foley reveals, “Most of the time we are out in the greater 50 states tracking down other members of our platoon trying to get some closure to this event that happened over in Iraq.” Foley didn’t give anything else away, apart from saying the duo would do “a lot of running and fighting and jumping. There’s a lot of physicality.” Despite all those action sequences, one thing we won’t be seeing in True Blood Season 5 is Foley without a shirt. Foley joked in an interview with TV Line, “It’s so disappointing because I went on a diet, I got into great shape, I lost weight … and nothing.”

Foley’s not the only big-name new cast member on True Blood Season 5. Reports of Law and Order: SVU’s Chris Meloni’s star turn as a big bad vampire on the show have been rife for ages, although Meloni’s been very circumspect about his role. He did reveal at the Kids Choice Awards last month that he’ll be “bringing a lot of fangs and a lot of staking” to the show. He also said that his character would be trying to unite the vampires so that they wouldn’t “go around killing humans willy-nilly.” We get our first glimpse of Meloni’s character in this video that was released a few days ago by HBO. It doesn’t give us much more information apart from the fact that he will indeed be bringing fangs to the show, but it’s still a great first glimpse and teaser for when True Blood Season 5 comes back to our screens on June 10. As for whether Meloni (like Foley) will be keeping his shirt on in True Blood Season 5, Meloni says (perhaps a bit regretfully), “Yeah, unfortunately.”

True Blood fans were given a real treat last Sunday when HBO released a clip filmed behind-the-scenes as Joe Manganiello (Alcide), Anna Paquin (Sookie), and Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette) acted out a scene from the upcoming Season 5. We don’t get very much new information from the clip that we didn’t already guess earlier – Sookie is probably the only one who’s surprised that Russell Edgington isn’t dead – but still it’s great to get a glimpse of our favorite Bon Temps characters after a very long hiatus.

The clip begins with Alcide showing up in Bon Temps to warn Sookie that Russell Edgington isn’t dead. Sookie’s puzzled – as far as she knows, Edgington was killed two seasons ago. The oh-so-protective Alcide is upset that Bill and Eric never told her that they buried Edgington alive (to prolong his suffering)… then takes things one step further and offers Sookie his protection by asking her to stay with him. (Awww, I’m sure his intentions were completely honorable!) It’s at this point that Lafayette, everyone’s favorite cook and sometimes-medium tells Alcide to p*** off, saying that Bon Temps and Sookie has had quite enough of vampires, werewolves, maenads, witches, and faeries. Alcide growls in response, and I had to laugh. (I’m sure Manganiello intended for it to sound menacing… there must be something wrong with me. And of course the fiercely-independent Sookie turns Alcide down, saying she can take care of herself. You go, Sookie!

Check out the latest clip here:

It looks like Alcide is getting a much bigger role in this Season. Now that Sookie isn’t seeing Eric or Bill, could Sookie end up with the strapping werewolf instead? Manganiello himself says that the writers had given him “some amazing stuff to play around with” in the first six episodes of Season 5, adding that there had been a large character expansion. He also revealed that Alcide will have much more romance in the TV series than in Charlaine Harris’ books… so Alcide and Manganiello fans, you’ll have lots to look forward to when the new season premieres on June 10!
